1. Name

The Committee is referred to as the Korea Liver Cancer Association (KLCA) Ethics Committee (hereinafter referred to as the ethics committee).

2. Purpose

The ethics committee aims to promote the members' rights, efficiency of medical work, mutual communication, and cooperation among the members by providing medical ethics education to the members and providing solutions for publication ethics.

3. Construction and term

The ethics committee consists as follows. The term of the ethics committee is in accordance with the term of board of directors or Chairperson in the KLCA.

  • 1) Chairperson: The chairperson of the KLCA will be the chairperson.
  • 2) Members: An executive director, Chairperson in the publication committee, and Chairperson in the academic committee should be included as mandatory members, and three or fewer members recommended by the Chairperson will be added. The ethics committee consists of no more than six members.

4. Work

To achieve the objectives of the ethics committee, the following tasks will be performed.

  • 1) Evaluation of the types and ranges of unethical publication, and preparation of counterplan to prevent unethical publication.
  • 2) Regulations for deliberation and punishment of members' rights, responsibilities, and qualifications related to medical ethics.
  • 3) Other issues related to medical ethics.
  • 4) Other appointments of the Board of directors or Chairperson.

5. Meeting

  • 1) The Chairperson may convene a meeting as necessary.
  • 2) The ethic committee should be formed by the attendance of more than 50% of the registered members. An agreement will be established when more than 50% of the present members agree. In case of equal number of votes, the chairperson will determine.
  • 3) Issues decided by the ethics committee will be reported to the KLCA board. The issues will be performed with the KLCA board’s approval.

6. Regulations on punishment

Punishment will be submitted to the board of directors after discussion in the ethics committee if the KLCA members will do as follows:

  • 1) defamation of the KLCA.
  • 2) disturbing friendship.
  • 3) violation of medical ethics by researcher who submit the article to the Journal of Liver Cancer.
  • 4) doing something against the publication ethics.

Once the disciplinary action will be approved by the ethics committee, the subject and the organization which the subject belongs to will be notified. The approved disciplinary action will be performed.

7. Appendix

  • 1) Issues not established in these regulations should follow the decisions of the ethics committee.
  • 2) This regulation takes effect on the day when it is passed by board of directors in the KLCA.
